When to pray this prayer

This prayer is for those who wake up more tired than when they went to sleep. Those who wake up with a sense of having been in a fight — even though they cannot remember the details. Those who notice that the spiritual attacks in their life seem to intensify at night: the heaviness that descends after dark, the troubled sleep, the sense of a presence in the room, the strange encounters in dreams. The night is a battlefield that many believers have left uncontested — and the enemy knows it. In spiritual warfare, an unguarded position is an occupied position. This prayer is your nightly declaration that you are taking back the night. It is not a prayer of fear — it is a prayer of authority. You are not asking God to please protect you if He is willing. You are activating a protection that already belongs to you, establishing your authority over the nighttime hours, and sending clear notice to every spirit that operates in darkness that this territory is claimed for the Kingdom of God. Pray it every night before sleep. Make it as routine as locking your front door.

Lord God Almighty, before I close my eyes tonight, I take my position as a believer in Jesus Christ, clothed in the full armor of God, and I declare that this night is under the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. The night belongs to You — You created it. You are not absent from it. Psalm 121:4 declares that You do not slumber or sleep. While I rest, You are awake. While I sleep, You are watching. And what You are watching over, the enemy cannot successfully attack.

I declare right now that my sleep tonight is under the blood of Jesus Christ. I apply the blood over my mind, over my body, over the room I am sleeping in, over the entrance of this house. As the blood of the Passover lamb on the doorposts of the Israelites caused the destroyer to pass over, the blood of Jesus Christ — the Lamb of God, as declared in Revelation 5:12 — causes every destroyer assigned to my night to pass over me. I am covered. The destroyer has no access.

I take authority now, in the name of Jesus Christ, over every spirit that operates in the night hours. I address every spirit of the night that has been assigned against me: you are commanded to stand down. Your assignment is terminated. The One who holds the keys of death and Hades, as written in Revelation 1:18, has authority over every dark hour — and He exercises that authority on my behalf. You cannot proceed.

I bind every spirit of nighttime oppression, sleep paralysis, and terror. These things are real — and they are spiritual. I bind them now, for it is written in Matthew 18:18 that what I bind on earth is bound in heaven. What I am binding right now is bound. These spirits cannot operate in my sleep tonight. I loose the peace of God in their place — for it is written in Philippians 4:7 that the peace of God guards my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus. That guard is posted at my bedroom door tonight.

I speak to the atmosphere of this room and I declare it changed. Where there was spiritual heaviness, I declare the presence of the Holy Spirit. Where there was darkness used as cover for the enemy's work, I declare the light of God that leaves no shadow for the enemy to hide in. For it is written in 1 John 1:5 that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. His presence in this room tonight leaves no space for what operates in darkness.

I declare that my spirit will commune with God through the night, not with evil. Psalm 42:8 says that God commands His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me — a prayer to the God of my life. Even in sleep, let my spirit be oriented toward You. Let whatever comes to me through the night come from You alone.

I send the angels of God to stand guard around me. It is written in Psalm 34:7 that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them. I fear You, Lord. I honor You. And I receive the angelic guard that accompanies that honor. Let the hosts of heaven surround this place tonight, visible to the spirit world, making it unmistakably clear that this territory is occupied by the Most High and that trespassers will be confronted by forces far greater than any spirit of darkness.

I declare that I will wake up tomorrow morning in the strength of the Lord. Lamentations 3:22-23 says that God's mercies are new every morning, that great is His faithfulness. I declare that the morning I will see is one of freshness, of renewed strength, of a spirit that has rested in the safety of God's protection. What the night tried to steal — my peace, my strength, my clarity — is not taken. I wake with all of it intact.

The night is safe. The enemy is bound. The angels are posted. And I rest in the protection of the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps.

This night is under the authority of Jesus Christ. No nighttime attack shall prosper. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

For this warfare to be consistent, do not wait for an attack to pray this prayer. Pray it preventively, every night, as a standard practice of spiritual security. The enemy looks for unguarded hours. Make sure yours are guarded before he looks.
